IV Hydration / IV Vitamin Treatment Q & A
What is IV Vitamin Treatment?
Vitamin treatment, otherwise known as a "Myers' cocktail" or "vitamin drip", involves administering a a mixture of magnesium, calcium, various B vitamins, and victamin C directly into the veins. By infusing vital nutrients directly into the body, patients achieve concentrations of nutrients that wouldn't be attainable if administered orally. IV vitamin treatments can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), migraines, muscle spasms, fatigue, chronic depression, anxiety amongst a variety of additional issues.
What is IV hydration?
IV hydration, or intravenous hydration, is a technique that replaces the body's lost fluids. The technique administers a solution or water mixed with salt, sugar or other substances directly into the veins so they can reach organs and other tissues where they're most needed. It's most frequently use din cases of severe dehydration, such as heat stroke or in patients who have been vomiting or have had diarrhea for long periods of time. Athletes may become dehydrated during prolonged periods of play or practice in hot weather.
Why is dehydration dangerous?
Most of us become slightly dehydrated from time to time, but as long as we drink enough fluids right away, we can achieve that balance of fluids our bodies need to function properly. But when we become acutely dehydrated, our bodies can stop functioning the way they should, and tissue breakdown and organ malfunction can occur. For instance, the kidneys need plenty of fluid to keep them working properly. When the body doesn't have enough fluids, your kidneys can begin to shut down and become damaged.
Do I need to go to the hospital for IV hydration?
No, we can perform IV hydration right in our office using state-of-the-art techniques just like you'd find in a hospital.
What is involved in IV hydration?
During the treatment, you'll need to sit or lie down. A special needle will be inserted in your arm and attached to a long tube, which in turn is attached to a bag. The bag Is filled with rehydrating solution, and it will be suspended over your head to allow it to slowly drain into your blood vessels. The length of your treatment will depend on how much fluid you need to have replaced. Our staff will monitor you throughout your treatment.
